Hi Ian. My mum-in-law, Jan, really enjoyed your recent programme “Skiving About At Poverty Bottom” which was on Radio 4. She wonders since you lived in Newhaven for some time, could you possibly help with a query about her family heritage. About 1916, her father was a fourteen year-old seascout and was was sent from Leicester to Rottingdean, to work with the coast guards. His name was Frederick William Clarke. If you know anyone who has any further information or links to information about seascouts and their role in Rottingdean during WW1, we would be very pleased to hear from you.

    Very many thanks

    Nigel Maloney, Jan’s son-in-law.

I’ll ask my step-dad, who lived in Rottingdean just after the Second War!
